Centrally located in the heart of Cornwall, equidistant from both the north and south coasts and situated on the western fringes of the beautiful landscape that is Bodmin Moor, Bodmin makes an ideal base for your holiday, short break, or a day trip in Cornwall. There's no need to use a car while you are here as there are six attractions within walking distance of the town center, including a Steam Railway, the Town Museum, and the Courtroom Experience. On the town's doorstep are two grand country houses with lovely gardens–Pencarrow and Lanhydrock–and if you enjoy cycling and walking, Bodmin will be your heaven with the Camel Trail starting in the town. If it's the outdoors that you enjoy, then we have something for you. From Bodmin Moor and its magnificent windswept tors to Helman Tor and its magnificent views or even the Bodmin Beacon Nature Reserve, the area is abundant with wildlife, fresh air, and peace. Bodmin is great for touring too! It is only 20 minutes away by car to the famous Eden Project, St. Michaels Mount is a little over an hour away, and you can be splashing your feet in the sea at Padstow in less than half an hour. Lots to see and do in Bodmin
With so many attractions, walks, events, and leisure activities in the Bodmin area, deciding what to do first will take a lot of work.
Bodmin itself is abundant with history as it is Cornwall's historic county town which is reflected in what's on offer, such as Bodmin Jail, the Courtroom Experience, the town museum, the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry Museum, and the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway. The town's parish Church, St Petroc's, is the largest in Cornwall and is well worth a visit, as well as the many concerts held there throughout the year.
On the outskirts of the town, there are two grand country houses, Lanhydrock (National Trust) and the lovely Georgian house of Pencarrow, which is still owned and lived in by the same family to this day. For garden lovers, there are also some more beautiful gardens in the area, such as Pinsla Garden with its interesting sculptures and Northwood Garden at St Neot, which is a magnificent four-acre water garden featuring ponds, streams, waterfalls, bridges, fountains, and a romantic island.
Plenty of walking and cycling opportunities exist for those who love the great outdoors. Bodmin is the start of the Camel Trail, a 28-mile cycling track almost entirely flat! The Saints Way also passes nearby the town and is a coast-to-coast route from Padstow to Fowey. As well as this, Bodmin Moor lies northeast of Bodmin and is full of rambling walks up the granite tors of this wild landscape. Rough Tor near Camelford is particularly stunning, and on a clear day, you can see the north Cornish coast.

To the northeast of Bodmin lies the wild and unspoiled landscape of Bodmin Moor. Peace, panoramic views, and wildlife are abundant there. Clamber up the granite rocks to the top of Rough Tor, the second highest point in Cornwall, and look out to the north coast or venture to moorland near St Breward, where you are likely to spot Bodmin Moor ponies grazing.
On the southeast side of the moor, visit Minions, where archaeological treasures like the Cheesewring are scattered, as well as the ruins of copper mines.

Indulge yourself in the legends and myths of Bodmin Moor. See Dozmary Pool, where it is believed Excalibur rose from the water, or watch out for the footprints of the mysterious creature that is the Beast of Bodmin Moor.

There are also some fantastic attractions like Carnglaze Slate Caverns, where you can visit and tour the old slate mine or enjoy some family fun at Colliford Lake Park, where there is undercover soft play, amongst other things.
For literary fans, why not visit Jamaica Inn at the heart of the moor where as well as learn about smuggling, you can see the room where Daphne Du Maurier stayed the night, which inspired her book of the same name.
